Poet, essayist, play writer, teacher and chair of African American Studies Department at Yale University, all amazing characteristics of Elizabeth Alexander. Alexander is an amazing women who has devoted much of her life improving race relation in American society through poetry. Much of Alexanders work relates to African American struggles during the twentieth century. She also serves as the inaugural poet for a new generation of twenty-first century voices. Her poems are included in dozens of collections and have been translated into several languages including Spanish, German, Italian, Arabic and Bengali. Elizabeth Alexander has won many different prestigious awards such as the first ever Jackson Prize of Poetry,National endowment for the Art Fellowship, Pushcart Prizes and the George Kent Award. It is safe to say Elizabeth Alexander has changed the world of poetry forever.
